Leaders are managers, but managers are not necessarily leaders

Who is a leader: - “A one person who carry with a team ahead to achieve a goal.” in my personal view, we can`t nominate a position as a leader without better individual evolution in any establishment. Anyone can be a manager on his experience qualification and performance. But leader should have deep rooted commitment to make others drive to a goal. The leader goes towards the achievement of a goal. He or she should keep a good understand about each team members. Always the team should be motivated by the leader.
And also the leader shouldn’t think personal Inconvenience, and disappointed facts. Because followers are seeing leaders expression, behavior who followed at every times.
The most important matter is good reliability should be kept by internal parties. It means leader must have trust about followers and followers keep fully trust about their leader. otherwise it is difficult to win the goal together without reliability.

Who is a Manager: - “A manager is a person who manage a part of an establishment.”

                         As examples: -             Finance Manager
                          Human Recourses Manager
                          Production Manager
                          Marketing Manager

They have responsibility to manage in particular department only. Although the manager have a good combination between internal other department who cannot be managed and make decision in other section.

The manager`s functions are: -

1.      Planning - Planning is concerned with the future impact of today`s decision. The manager determines in advance what should be done.

2.      Organizing – Organizing is establishing the internal structure of the business. The focus is on division, coordination control of tasks and the flow of information within the organization.

3.      Staffing - It includes recruiting, selecting, hiring and training of employees.

4.      Controlling – The manager must ensure that everything occurs in conformity with the plans adopted, the instruction issued and the principles established.

                                                                                                                                Fayol. Henry (1916)

Managers need certain skill to perform the duties activities associated with being a manager.
Robert L. Katz found that managers need three essential skill or competencies.

1.      Technical skills – involve process or technique knowledge and proficiency in a certain specialized field.
Ex: - Engineering, Accounting, Computers.

2.      Human Skills - Involve the ability to interact effectively with people.

3.      Conceptual Skills – Involve the  formulation of ideas about abstract and complex situation
                                                                                                                    Katz.L.R (1974)

And also Henry Mintzberg has identified main three roles common to the work of all managers.
v  Interpersonal
v  Informational
v  Decisional
                                                                                                                                Mintzberg. H. (1973)
Leaders are managers: - Because, It can be seen some similarities between leader & Managers. Both of parties are focusing to achieve for final result of the organization. It means, Leaders and Managers have team who should be influenced towards for one point. Leaders influence for a goal and managers influence to achieve vision & mission of an organization.

But, managers are not necessarily leaders: - Earlier as I explained, Leader is a strong person who influence followers towards to a goal. Leadership requires the creation of new systems and the vision to see something new. Always leaders should think out of the box to achieve the goal from more efficient way. Also, followers should be a dynamic & strong team to go towards to a one goal. Every times, the team should be inspired and motivated by the leader.

There are key differences between leader Vs manager as below
  •  The leader has followers and Manager has subordinates
  • The Leader always empower and inspire his followers to achieve the goal as success and the manager control, gives command and maintain his subordinates when they going to achieve vision and mission.
  • Without stability and flexibility is being worked by the leader and the manager looks for flexibility.
  • The leader always looking for a better way and more efficient way to achieve the goal with follower and doing the team’s brain wash and polishing their skills at every days. But manager don’t take this type effort to buildup of his subordinates.

Above mentioned differences, make sure that managers are not necessarily leaders. Because leader can have a short period to achieve the goal with followers. Therefore, each team members should sharp and show their skill and should be gone to the end with leader. Followers have skills and courage should not be changed often. It means, all team members should be to the end together.  But manager has not like this task to do with subordinate within short period. And also, if there is a person with any failed when manager going to achieve the vision, mission, He or she can be kept away from there and suitable person can be replaced by the manager. So that, it will not be highly affect to outcome of the manager.
Finally, I can show and prove on above mentioned circumstance that “Leaders are managers, but managers are not necessarily leaders”
